Jo Ketteman RGN RM LCH MARH
I am Jo Ketteman, I am a homeopath. I trained as a homeopath after previously working as a nurse and a midwife. I work in a shop in Buckinghamshire, and it’s a place for a multi-disciplinary team, so we have different therapists here, we have two treatment rooms, and we have a shop front. There is a reception area where patients can always speak to a therapist, who can give them some advice.
I chose homeopathy as a career because I needed to make a change from being a midwife. When I had my own child, I didn’t want her to have unnecessary treatment, so I decided to do a homeopathic first aid course to treat her for minor problems myself. The idea is that homeopathic remedies only take as much as they need to help the body to sort itself out. I have found that one of the simplest things to remedy is helping people with hay fever. Kids who are struggling, especially through exam season, can get great relief from homeopathic treatment.
Making homeopathy your career is adaptable to your individual lifestyle. You can make it work for you, as an individual. You can work as much or as little as suits you and your situation. Training as a homeopath is one of the best things I have ever done. It was a great way to learn; it was really exciting mixing with like-minded people, and you got to explore a subject in depth that you were passionate about.
I now work as a teacher, and I love sharing my knowledge in homeopathy. We have a range of people training to be homeopath; lots of students with varied backgrounds. Anyone can become a homeopath. If you are passionate about health and working with people it’s a great career: to become someone within the community that people come to for help.
